Covering under-construction buildings mandatory for completion certificate in Kolkata
In an attempt to keep a check on air pollution due to dust and rubble fall in the newly-planned region of Kolkata, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has made it mandatory for the under-construction buildings and properties to be covered in any dust-preventing material for getting the completion certificate (CC).. The building plan sanction rules of NKDA might see new directions on the issue very soon.
Addressing the issue of increasing dust pollution in the New Town area, a resolution was adopted during a board meeting of NKDA in Kolkata on January 27. The authorities recognised the fact that dust from construction sites is a real problem affecting the lives of people. According to the resolution, a building might not get CC if the structure is not covered properly.
Supporting the decision, a realty expert at Dharitri Infraventure Pvt Ltd, a Kolkata-based real estate agency, stated, “We welcome the step taken by NKDA. There cannot be an excuse for pollution in the city. Every construction site must be covered appropriately to keep a check on dust pollution.”
“It is the responsibility of real estate developers to follow the guidelines of NKDA and take measures to pare down air pollution generating from construction sites,” adds the expert associated with Dharitri Infraventure Pvt Ltd.
Kolkata has lately been in the limelight for being one of the very few Indian cities favourable for Real Estate Investment. Buildings are being constructed on large scale, especially in the New Town region of West Kolkata. With realty developers not abiding by the rules and keeping under-construction projects uncovered, dust pollution has emerged as a major issue in the last couple of years. However, the latest development is expected to resolve the problem of pollution to a great extent.
