Rashtrapati Bhavan to turn ‘smart’ with IBM solution
NEW DELHI: Rashtrapati Bhavan has partnered with IBM to transform the Presidential Estate into a smart township. IBM has setup an Intelligent Operations Center (IOC) to monitor and enhance the efficiency of critical infrastructure and utilities at Presidential Estate spread across 330 acres of land.
“The smart presidential estate is a replicable model, which can be replicated in other parts of the country through citizen’s engagement, public and private sector participation and deployment of intensive technologies. We are in the process of replicating our Rashtrapati Bhavan experience of smart town-ship by applying and transferring our knowledge and expertise to five villages in an adjoining state,” said President Pranab Mukherjee.
The Intelligent Operations Center addresses challenges like water supply, security, electrical infrastructure and solid waste management. IBM IOC also delivered a mobile app to enable residents to report issues using the web and mobile. The data from reported observation will be supplied to city offices for further action.
As part of this strategic engagement, IBM developed the detailed roadmap for the transformation of the President’s estate into a smart township. IBM will provide the following solutions:
The company has integrated its IOC system with electrical billing system. Data on consumption patterns of consumers, public and common areas, within the estate, are being collected to optimize energy management.
The water management at the estate relied heavily on manual intelligence. IBM has mapped all water domain assets such as underground water reservoirs, pump locations and tube well assets. The entire water distribution pipeline was mapped on a Geographical Information Systems (GIS) layer. Through IBM IOC system, the company aims to provide accurate information about the distribution network. This will enable faster diagnostic and resolution of water incidents.
The system also maps waste management, starting from waste bin collections, rickshaw routes, disposals, landfill, and processing. The mobile app platform also assists teams that maintain cleanliness in the area.
On the security front, the IOC system comes with e-visitor technology to facilitate analyses of all the visitors’ and keeps statistics.
