Dust norms bite dust in new Noida sectors: Residents
NOIDA: About 100 residents living in societies like Prateek Wisteria, J M Orchid, Skytech Matrott, Elite Homes and Amarpali Silicon City in Noida’s sectors 74, 75, 76 and 77 have complained of dust pollution because of construction work in the area. Residents have also complained that builders are not following the norms which in turn is causing health issues.
Under the NGT guidelines, specific rules have to be followed by the builder during construction of a building. These include daily sprinkling of water on the dust and road surrounding the construction area, removing dust from the road, covering the area under construction with sheets as well as covering trucks carrying sand, and so on.
According to residents, builders are not watering the area to avoid dust pollution, thereby triggering breathing trouble and visibility issues. They claimed that repeated complaints to the Noida Authority were also going unheeded.
They have approached the area junior engineer, additional chief operating officer (ACEO), district magistrate (DM) Nagendra Prasad Singh and even the National Green Tribunal (NGT) but it did not yield any results.
While deputy chief executive officer (DCEO) Saumya Srivastava instructed work circle 6 in-charge M P Sharma to take action, it was not followed up with action.
“We did get a call from the DCEO, but I don’t have any hope as there has been no action for the last six months despite our complaints,” said Amit Gupta a resident of Prateek Wisteria in Sector 77. Gupta said, “While DCEO Srivastava has been very helpful in addressing the matter, the builders are not listening to Authority officials and do not obey rules.”
M P Sharma has promised action to the residents, but Gupta was sceptical, saying he has been hearing this for many months now.
A team of Authority officials led by the DCEO surveyed sectors 74 and 75 on April 3 following another complaint by the residents on Sunday. During the survey, Srivastava gave time till Monday to some of the builders.
