Gujarat University issues notice to its estate department
AHMEDABAD: Gujarat University has issued a show-cause notice to its estate department, for failing to pay property tax to the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The issue came to light after university authorities received a notice from AMC, asking them to pay their property tax dues.
The delay in payment of property tax resulted in excess payment of Rs 5 lakh. Property tax, if paid on time, would have been Rs 56 lakh, but the delay has meant it will have to pay Rs 61 lakh. After realizing that it had defaulted, GU sought an explanation from the estate department, which is responsible for payments of electricity bills and property tax. Vice chancellor M N Patel said: “We have given notice to the estate department and asked them to clarify why there was a default by GU. This will not be tolerated and we will fix responsibility on officials.”
